I liked the idea of portfolios for staff development. I have never heard of this method, I just thought that staff develoment was done as a group. If I thought someone at my school would listen to me I would suggest this for my school.
I would have to agree with Damian. I have never heard of prof. development portfolios. I assumed everyone did it as a district or building.
The only professional development that is individualized that I was aware of, was the moving from level to level with our teaching certificates.
I think the individual would work, only if you have self-motivated staff members. This is hard to do across the building I would assume, so I think that having the not-so-motivated staff participate in group staff development.
